One skier is dead in an avalanche at the Montgenèvre ski area. The avalanche broke around treeline in the large bowl below the Monte de la Plane in the popular off-piste area accessible from the Rocher de L’Aigle lift. The incident occurred at around 11:40 a.m. yesterday, Feb. 9 The victim was a Hautes-Alpes resident in his early thirties. An additional skier was present but survived.
