Today we are harvesting (we call it ‘lifting’) sugar beet. Sugar beet processing is incredibly efficient with very little waste as byproducts have many uses, and even waste heat is used to heat greenhouses. Sugar beet requires less water to grow than sugar cane and can be grown in temperate climates where water isn’t a limiting factor.
