Did you know that a giraffe’s tongue can reach up to 18 inches in length! Their tongues are prehensile, meaning they are adapted for seizing or grasping especially by wrapping around. They use their tongues to grab nutritious leaves and shoots from trees. Giraffes require a lot of food, up to 75 lbs per day! Because they require so much food, they need to spend most of their day eating. It’s believed that their tongues are purplish black to protect them from the hot sun. In this video from Keepe
