Cuban rock iguanas, like Gwangi, are quiet lizards that communicate using body language. A common behavior seen by those that come close to iguanas is head bobbing. Head bobbing can mean different things, such as an assertion of dominance, showing irritation, attracting a mate, or a simple greeting. Since Gwangi’s dewlap (the large flap of skin under the chin) and body are relaxed and his eyes are looking at multiple points, he is simply saying hello to the keeper who came to collect him. | Clyd
