Galop is a dance named after the fastest running gait of a horse. Originally a galoppade, a lively country dance, introduced in the late 1820s to Parisian society by the Duchesse de Berry . The faster version of Galop is called a can can. It was usually the last dance of the evening. So no wonder that the Aram Khachaturian closed his 5 movement suite "Masquerade" written in 1941, incidental music for the play of the same name by Russian poet Lermontov, with this galop.
