Now is the time when Canada geese are molting all their flight feathers, effectively grounding them until their new feathers come in - a process that typically takes two to three weeks. While molting, the geese will typically gather in large flocks around known “safe zones” with ample food (turf grass), shelter (pond) and safety from predators or harassment. After wintering along the coast of North Carolina, these snow geese will soon depart for their nesting grounds in the north Canadian and Alaskan tundras.
