As 3,000 riot police swarmed his hillside villa on Wednesday, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol huddled with party loyalists, telling them that people were increasingly realising the country's legal system had been hijacked by leftist forces.

SEOUL: A South Korean court will weigh Saturday (Jan 18) whether to extend the detention of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, after investigators arrested him over a failed martial law bid.

If Yoon is arrested, investigators can extend his detention to 20 days, during which they will transfer the case to public prosecutors for indictment. If the court rejects the investigators’ request, Yoon will be released and return to his residence.
