J.J. McCarthy is set to take over as the franchise quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. He will take over after Sam Darnold left town in NFL free agency and after the Vikings chose not to pursue another quarterback like Aaron Rodgers on a short-term deal.

The Vikings had Pro Bowlers manning the outside-linebacker spots in their starting defensive lineup – Jonathan Greenard, who registered 12 sacks and forced four fumbles, and Andrew Van Ginkle, who recorded 11.5 sacks and returned two interceptions for touchdowns -- in 2024.

Having affirmed their commitment to J.J. McCarthy by opting not to pursue Aaron Rodgers, the Minnesota Vikings are happy with what they have seen from their young quarterback so far this offseason.
