The lower half of Georgia could see several inches of snow on Tuesday, in an event that could last 36-48 hours, officials say.

The snow may be over in north Georgia, but dropping temperatures in the next few hours will lead to dangerous conditions on metro Atlanta's roads and potential power outages.

Nitz the mountains will see “accumulations to 2-3, isolated 4-inch totals or higher in the higher peaks of the North Georgia mountains.” The Atlanta metro will see snow in the morning with it turning to freezing rain. “From the metro to the area to the north, we’re talking one to two inches,” Nitz said.

Wednesday temperatures are not expected to climb much above freezing, leaving little opportunity for the snow that froze overnight to melt.
