Florian Wirtz's decision to perform a U-turn on an apparent agreement to join Bayern Munich and join Liverpool has drawn some unexpected criticism.

Liverpool have agreed a £116 million fee with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz, in a deal that could become a British transfer record.

Liverpool supporters were understandably left last week after it emerged that their club had struck a record deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz. The Reds had two bids rejected, the last one of £113m, which would have seen £100m paid up front with performance-related add-ons, but have finally got the deal over the line.
