A second winter storm within a week will blanket a huge portion of the southern United States in snow and ice, threatening to potentially disrupt power to hundreds of thousands of homes in an 800-mile corridor stretching from Texas to Georgia and create travel problems nationwide.

South Florida may be far from the snow, but a winter storm that blanketed the Midwest and is now hitting the mid-Atlantic is affecting flights in and out of the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports.

The second major winter storm of 2025 continues to brew and now threatens to drop snow and ice along a 1,500-mile corridor of the southern U.S.

That could mean people should watch for cold-stunned iguanas. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said iguanas can become immobilized or sluggish when temperatures hit between 40 and 50 degrees.
