Emma Raducanu brought Naomi Osaka’s Washington Open campaign to an end with a performance full of confidence. Raducanu, enjoying her best form in some time, has looked sharp since crossing over from Wimbledon to the US hard courts and is now putting together a strong run on both sides of the draw.

Emma Raducanu beat four-times Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-2 in their first career meeting to reach the quarter-finals of the Washington Open on Thursday.

Raducanu is also through to the semi-finals of the women’s doubles. The Briton and Elena Rybakina beat Giuliana Olmos and Aldila Sutjiadi 7-6, 6-4 to set up a last-four clash with second seeds Shuai Zhang and Taylor Townsend.
