President Joe Biden postponed his plans to establish two new national monuments in California on Tuesday. Biden traveled to California on Monday night after visiting with community members and survivors of the New Year’s terrorist attack in New Orleans.

Biden has federally protected 1,053,125 square miles of land and ocean in his term — an area nearly four times the size of Texas.

In last days of his presidency, Biden adds more protected sites to a long list of conservation accomplishments
