Penguins netminder Alex Nedeljkovic made history in a pair of ways. With roughly three minutes left in the game, the Sabres pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Nedeljkovic collected a dumped puck and took a shot at the empty net, successfully scoring the NHL's most recent goalie goal.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen wasn't able to bail out the Sabres when they began to make mistakes in the second period. Their starting goalie was outplayed by Penguins backup Alex Nedeljkovic, as Pittsburgh scored four consecutive goals and held on for a 5-2 win in KeyBank Center.

The Buffalo Sabres Quarter-Century Teams have been unveiled, consisting of 12 players who represented the organization from 2000 to 2025.

Hurme would have started for Finland, and Kiprusoff would have been his backup. Noronen would have been the third goalie. In 2000-01, all three of them, Kiprusoff (5 games), Hurme (22) and Noronen (2), got the call, and played in the NHL.
