KFC, formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, is officially leaving the state it’s named after. The fast food chain’s parent company, Yum! Brands, announced on Tuesday that KFC will be moving its corporate headquarters to Texas. Specifically, the Dallas suburb of Plano, where KFC will join sister brand Pizza Hut’s offices.

Why would it? Its KFC and Pizza Hut brands are now headquartered in Plano. Its Taco Bell and Habitat Burger & Grill brands are in Irvine, California. And there’s still the problem that caused Yum to move the KFC headquarters to Texas — distance.
KFC started in a motel in a small town in Kentucky 95 years ago and continued its operations in the Bluegrass State. It was Kentucky Fried Chicken until it was rebranded as KFC in the 1990s and had been headquartered in Louisville since 1997, The Lexington Herald-Leader reported.
