Hamas has brushed off President Donald Trump’s latest threat and reiterated that it will only free the remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Trump convened his Cabinet members and Elon Musk for a meeting on Thursday, where the president told the head of agencies they are in charge of their departments. "We had a great meeting," Trump said, adding it was about "cutting" the workforce.

Hamas threatened to kill hostages if there is "any escalation" of attacks from Israel against "our people," a Hamas military spokesman said in a statement Thursday.

The plan drawn up by Egypt would replace Hamas with interim bodies controlled by Arab, Muslim and Western states, according to a draft seen by Reuters.
