Exercising with others can lower health care costs and improve loneliness among senior citizens. But many need help affording or getting to classes.
Right now, the class is held at Premia Fitness every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. A membership is $30 per month, but certain insurance companies may cover the cost.
Depending on the location, the classes can include everything from aerobics cardio-fitness programs to line dancing and yoga. In some cases, the services of experts are offered.
The senior fitness program started in 1990. Ninety-year-old Mary Macrae was there then, and was there when CBS4 joined the class. "It's something about this man," says Macrae, referring to Dean.

While the pandemic might have made some seniors hesitant to exercise in public, Winans pointed out the great variety of fitness classes now available – and many that begin in January.
Visit www.newtonseniors.org. Milford Senior Center Weekly Fitness program: At 10:30 a.m. every weekday, Milford TV streams an exercise class on its channel and at milfordtv.net.
North Jersey Health & Fitness, in the Ledgewood section of Roxbury Township, offers two Silver&Fit classes each week, averaging between 12 and 15 participants – as well as a YogaFit class.
The 10-11 a.m. Intermediate class is for active seniors. The 1-2 p.m. class is for those starting an exercise program or who want easier movements. Call 423-825-5955 to register.
