Hurricane Erin expected to become 'powerful' Cat 4 hurricane with 140-mph winds. Florida impact?
Erin has become the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. The quick-moving storm expected to become a strong Category 4 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph within the next 72 hours, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
"Erin will be a large and powerful hurricane over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean this weekend," the National Hurricane Center said.
Erin is the first hurricane of the 2025 season, and is expected to become a major Category 3 storm over the weekend.
