The California Governor has sued the U.S. President over the mobilization of the National Guard, calling it “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

President Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard to quell riots in Los Angeles, taking more firm actions than he did against violent protests in 2020 after George Floyd's death.

"Neither the National Guard nor the Marines are engaged in law enforcement," the DOJ's motion reads. "Rather, they are protecting law enforcement."
