Microsoft highlighted that the controller and Kinect sensor worked together, telling people back in May that "Kinect does require to be connected to Xbox One in all cases".

Kinect may not have become the essential gaming tool it was tipped to be, but ten years later it's found a niche everywhere else.

The system will cost $399 but Microsoft does not yet know when the standalone Kinect sensor will be available or for what price.

This weekend Microsoft revealed that new updates have arrived for the Xbox One Kinect. The camera, normally used for gaming, can now be used as a webcam.

Game retailer GameStop lists Microsoft's motion-sensing Kinect Xbox 360 add-on for $150, teases additional Elite and Arcade bundles.
