"The recent devastating fires in Los Angeles are going to make the state’s insurance crisis that much worse for home and property owners in much of California including those some 350 miles away in Santa Cruz County,

The state’s largest home insurance company, State Farm wants to raise its rates. The company said it’s in a dire financial situation because of the recent wildfires in Southern California. The wind-driven wildfires in Los Angeles area that started off the year and it destroyed more than 10,000 homes.

State Farm Insurance is calling the Los Angeles wildfires the costliest disaster in its history of doing business. The company is requesting an emergency rate increase on all customers.
