Newark announces mandatory overnight travel ban due to snowstorm
Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka has issued a mandatory travel ban prohibiting all non-exempt vehicles from operating on roadways within Newark city limits from 9 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday morning.
New Jersey will be under a state of emergency starting at noon on Feb. 22 as a blizzard is forecast to bring about a foot of snow to the area.
The forecasts all promised big snow totals, and they’ve been pretty spot on so far. Some places in New York City had a foot of snow by midnight, and other spots are expected to top that, with hours of snow still to go.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning that was expanded Sunday morning to include all of New Jersey, Philadelphia Metro and suburbs, all of Delaware, and Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania. In New York City, the blizzard warning was expanded to include Orange and Putnam counties in the lower Hudson Valley.
