The new map, referred to as Remedial Map 3, was chosen Thursday by a three-judge federal panel to serve as Alabama’s new congressional map for the 2024 elections.

“Alabama’s latest congressional map is a continuation of the state’s sordid history of defying court orders intended to protect the rights of Black voters,” Holder said.

A federal court has picked Alabama’s new congressional map, which will likely result in an additional Black — and Democratic — member in the delegation.

For the first time since the Supreme Court weighed in, on Tuesday, Alabama will vote using its new Congressional map that gives Black voters more power.

The new district map is a remedy to Alabama’s illegal dilution of Black voting power, and may lead to the election of two Black representatives for the first time in the state’s history.
