A ball joint press is needed to remove the pressed ball joints when the A-arm is on the car but using the press is generally faster and easier than removing (or installing) rivets.

The ball joints are pressed in and out of the control arms using a special tool. If the control arms and bushing are in good condition, then only the ball joints need replacement.
