Freezing a row in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets can organize your spreadsheet and make sorting through data a breeze. Here's how to do it.
You use Microsoft Excel 's built-in function to freeze specific rows and columns (often row or column headers), so when you’re scrolling through, these cells remain stationary on the page.
Can Excel show column headers on every screen? Yes, in Excel it’s called Freezing Panes, which can be applied to columns or rows (or both), and it’s super-simple.
Click the "View" tab. Click "Freeze Panes" from the Window group and select "Unfreeze Panes." Scroll past the previously frozen area using the side scroll bars or the center wheel on your mouse.
From the dropdown menu that appears, select the Freeze Panes option. Excel will automatically insert a thin line to show the separation between locked and unlocked rows.
The freeze panes feature is particularly useful for comparing data across distant rows or columns. For instance, to compare row 12 with row 87, select row 13 and activate 'Freeze Panes'.
You can freeze columns in Excel with a few clicks, and then unfreeze them when you no longer need to view them statically.
