Learn how to turn on/off Automatic Hyphenation to break lines and hyphenate words, & how to control the Hyphenation settings in Microsoft Word.
To keep that hyphenated word together, delete the hyphen character and press Ctrl+Shift+-. As you can see in Figure D, Word forces both sides of the hyphen to the beginning of the next line.
For dashes, it can turn double hyphens into an em dash or replace a hyphen between numbers with an en dash. Open Word and go to File > More > Options.
