To edit a footer in your PowerPoint slides and include citations or notes, you'll need to access the Header & Footer menu from the Insert tab.
Although older versions of PowerPoint required you to go through the Header and Footer menu to add a footnote, all PowerPoint 2010 slides come with a section designed specifically for footnotes.
