Participation rates for Advanced Placement science exams—specifically physics and computer science—have risen sharply over the last year, according to new data from the College Board.

While the numbers of students taking Advanced Placement computer science exams skyrocketed in 2014, participation for many groups of students remained low, an <i>Education Week</i> analysis shows.

In 2007, only 12 percent of those taking the AP Computer Science test were underrepresented minorities, but in 2017 that figure rose to 20 percent, or 22,199 out of 111,262.
