A winter storm that is producing snowy and icy weather across the southern Plains on Thursday will take aim at the Southeast, mid-Atlantic and Northeast by Friday.

The threat of snow, sleet, freezing rain, graupel, and black ice are possible across metro Atlanta and north Georgia through Saturday morning.

Areas in the north Georgia mountains will see between 3-6 inches of snow with locally higher amounts possible farther north into the mountains. Snowfall totals of 1-2 inches will be common around I-20 with 0.1-0.25 inch of ice possible. The northern suburbs in metro Atlanta will see between 2-3 inches of snow.

Another massive winter storm is forecast to pummel the southern and eastern U.S., with impacts from Texas to the Carolinas.

Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency for the state of Georgia as a winter storm is expected to impact the state Friday. This state of emergency is effective immediately and lasts through Tuesday,

Much of north Georgia is under a winter storm warning from Friday morning until Saturday. The far northern part of the state can expect between two and four inches of accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.
