A workers’ board is reinstating – at least temporarily – almost 6,000 fired probationary workers from the Department of Agriculture, according to a newly issued order obtained by CNN.

These Agriculture Department employees must be allowed back to their jobs for 45 days, as the Office of Special Counsel continues to investigate the Trump administration’s purge of recently hired, promoted or transferred federal employees.

Reuters says it’s estimated that over 20,000 federal employees have lost their jobs and another 75,000 have taken a buyout, of the 2.3-million-member federal civilian workforce. Probationary workers typically have less than one year of service in their current roles, although some of them are still long-time federal workers.
