Judge's order bars 'federalization and deployment of the National Guard of the United States within Illinois' for at least 14 days.
The troops were sent after protests over the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement sometimes escalated into violent clashes.
At least nine National Guard troops began their patrol at the Bass Pro Shops located at the Pyramid, an iconic landmark in Memphis. They were being escorted by a Memphis police officer and posed for photos with visitors who were standing outside. It was unclear how many Guard members were on the ground or were expected to arrive later.
The Tennessee National Guard will begin patrolling Friday in Memphis, the city announced. Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican, authorized the deployment of troops.
National Guard troops were “employed” in the Chicago area early Thursday, according to a U.S. official, and Broadview officials said that apparently included a deployment to their village.
Demonstrations are underway to protest the National Guard troops set to begin operations in Chicago. This marks the third Democrat-led city in four months that former President Trump has targeted with federal troops.
