Wes Anderson, who shot his fourth Cannes premiere, The Phoenician Scheme, at Babelsburg in Germany, was called to the carpet in the press room about his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s suggest film tariffs.

During a Cannes Film Festival press conference, Wes Anderson mocked President Donald Trump's proposed tariff on movies produced outside of America.

Wes Anderson largely kept tightlipped other than his next feature project does “have a darkness”. He’s collaborating with Roman Coppola again, who the filmmaker always co-writes with, as well as The Phoenician Scheme star Richard Ayoade on the next title.

"Can you hold up the movie in customs?" the director asked at Cannes Film Festival, wondering about how the president's would impose his supposed 100 percent tariffs on movies made outside of the U.S.

Anderson’s leading lady Mia Threapleton — who has acting in her blood thanks to mother Kate Winslet — was overcome with emotion as the applause raged on, smiling as tears poured down her face. Anderson beamed beside her.
