Authorities say two people in New Jersey were killed after their vehicle was swept up in flood waters during a storm that moved across the U.S. Northeast overnight.
Heavy rainfall flooded portions of New York and New Jersey, with videos on social media showing a subway station inundated with floodwaters.
They come in part because local officials and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy seem willing to gamble that the worst climate projections won’t come to pass.
Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed that two women in Plainfield died Monday when they were trapped in their car as floodwaters from downpours surrounded that vehicle. The two women have not yet been identified. Plainfield officials say that two others died in a storm on July 3.
