PETOSKEY, Mich. (WILX) - On Thursday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer toured the damage left behind by an ice storm in northern Michigan the previous weekend. No media was allowed, but Whitmer did release a video inviting President Donald Trump to tour the damage himself.
While a new storm system complicated recovery efforts, progress is being made across the region in restoring power.
The main issue, according to Andy Sullivan, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Gaylord, is going to be wind gusts forecast to be 30 mph or stronger.

The University of Michigan Biological Station is asking the public to refrain from walking its many trails following some severe ice storms.
Counties there can expect between 1-2 inches of snow on Wednesday before it transitions to rain, according to the National Weather Service station in Gaylord. Additional icing appears less likely, although strong winds up to 40 mph could knock down more trees and branches that were previously compromised by the icing, the weather service said.
As trail assessments take place, closure signs and blockades will be placed in areas that are determined unsafe.
