A little over a year after xAI announced Grok, X's AI-powered assistant, it's now available in the US as a standalone app.

Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, is testing out a standalone iOS app for its chatbot, Grok, which was available only to X users until now.

xAI has released an iOS app in the US for its Grok chatbot, as spotted earlier by TechCrunch. The standalone app version of the chatbot, which xAI calls a beta, can perform the same functions as the one built into X, as it can field real-time information, answer questions, and generate images.

The AI startup launched its first stand-alone consumer app, as the company tries to catch up with more established players such as OpenAI and Google in the generative AI race.

Mercedes-Benz has already launched its own generative AI program in its vehicles. It was released last month and relies on ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing. In the Mercedes, the system is used to improve the voice recognition system to understand more phrases as well as provide answers to other seemingly random questions.
