CNN, a unit of Warner Bros Discovery, plans to lay off hundreds of employees on Thursday, as it refocuses the business around a global digital audience, CNBC reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The layoffs at CNN and NBC come as the US media landscape is witnessing a major shift. More people are now consuming news through streaming services and social media, instead of traditional linear TV. The Associated Press had announced in November that it would cut its workforce by 8%.

The cuts will likely hit production teams based in New York and Washington, but not the network's star anchors.
