The highest amounts of snow stick to the south and east of Chicago, where 2 to 3 inches can be expected. Elsewhere, anywhere from dusting to 2 inches of snow, the lighter amounts are to the northwest. Snow tapers off Friday night and gives way to sunshine for Saturday.

It’s cold, and it’s going to stay cold in Chicago with only minor fluctuations in temperatures likely over the next couple of weeks.

With the clouds moving out overnight, temperatures will drop into the teens with feels-like temperatures being in the single digits. Wednesday will be the coldest day this week with highs only topping out in the lower 20s at best.

The snow will linger through Friday morning and then taper off from the northwest to the southeast in the afternoon. Areas near and especially south/east of I-55 could see as much as one to two inches. Expect impacts to the Friday morning and midday commutes.

As Arctic air and frigid temperatures continue, the next chance for snow in the Chicago area comes Thursday into Friday as part of a winter storm developing in the southern U.S.

Temperatures on Thursday will remain in the mid-20s under partly cloudy skies. By Thursday night, a system will approach the region, bringing the potential for light snow into Friday. Highs on Friday will inch closer to 30 degrees, with snowfall most likely near and east of Interstate 55.
