Washim is a city and a Municipal Council in Washim district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Washim is the district headquarters of Washim district. Washim was known earlier known as Vatsagulma and it was the capital of the Vatsagulma line of Vakataka dynasty. During British times Washim was bifurcated in into two separated districts namely Akola and Yavatmal.
