If coming from San Salvador, is it best to just book with a tour comp for this hike? I assume in addition to transport they would also be your guided tour on the way up and would include all the park fees?

Finding transportation will your biggest problem. I had a car so wasn’t a problem. I drove to the trailhead. Parking and guides available there. $5 to park. $4 each for a guide. After 10 minute hike you get to the park headquarters. There you will $3 park entrance. Water, souvenirs, and snacks are available there also. Oh and the groups start leaving early. We caught the 9:00 am.
Can anyone comment on mosquitos in this area/trail? We are going in March, which should be dry season, but was curious about everyone’s experience both in wet and dry season
So anyone can drive themselves to the park entrance and then wait to join the main group to hike up Santa Ana which leaves around 11am? I'm planning to rent a car while I'm in El Salvador but I hadn't seen many posts from people driving themselves to make this hike, only taking buses from the town of Santa Ana.
